Read previewThe proxy war between Disney and billionaire activist investor Nelson Peltz is over. According to The Wall Street Journal, Peltz's hedge fund Trian Partners may have profited about $300 million by waging a 16-month proxy battle against Disney, citing anonymous sources familiar with the matter. AdvertisementLast February, Bloomberg reported that Peltz made about $154 million in paper profit after buying 9.4 million shares of Disney. After all, Peltz waged two separate proxy battles against Disney in less than two years. AdvertisementWhen asked about the outcome of Peltz's proxy war, IAC chairman and billionaire Barry Diller told CNBC's Squawk Box on Thursday that the battle was a "grand waste of time" and questioned the value of Petlz's activist campaign.

In 1817, James Parkinson expressed a hope about the disease that is named after him. He thought that at some point there would be a discovery and “the progress of the disease may be stopped.”Now, nearly 200 years since Parkinson expressed his hope, and after four decades of unsuccessful clinical trials, a group of French researchers reports the first glimmer of success — a modest slowing of the disease in a one-year study. And the drug they used? A so-called GLP-1 receptor agonist, similar to the wildly popular drugs Ozempic, for diabetes, and Wegovy, for obesity. As many as half a million Americans have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, a degenerative brain illness second only to Alzheimer’s in prevalence.

A judge recently voided Elon Musk's $55 billion compensation package at Tesla. AdvertisementA Delaware judge recently ruled that Elon Musk should not get a $55 billion compensation package for his work at Tesla despite his contributions to the company. So now that Musk's compensation has to be renegotiated, will other executives kiss their massive bonuses, stock options, and paychecks, goodbye? The more Tesla was worth, the higher Musk's compensation would get. "I don't know whether individual CEOs are panicking or taking Elon Musk as a role model, thinking, 'Well, if he doesn't like Delaware, then I have to move out of Delaware,'" Lipton said.

The layoffs include hundreds of employees who work on some of the company’s most recognizable products, including Google Assistant, the voice-activated software that helps users check the weather, set timers and quickly look up facts. The Google Assistant layoffs are at least partly driven by a shift in focus toward artificial intelligence, Google said, amid plans to more deeply integrate the company’s latest AI models into its products. Google is working to find other roles for some of the affected employees amid the restructuring, the company said. “We’re responsibly investing in our company’s biggest priorities and the significant opportunities ahead,” a Google spokesperson said in a statement. The layoffs were earlier reported by Semafor and 9to5 Google, which also reported that Fitbit co-founders James Park and Eric Friedman are departing Google as part of this week’s changes.

The case involves hedge fund manager George Jarkesy, who the SEC fined and barred from the industry after determining he had committed securities fraud. Critics of the agency have argued that its in-house system gives it the unfair advantage of prosecuting cases before its own judges rather than before a jury in federal court. The case could make it harder for the SEC weed out bad actors in the securities industry, legal experts said. The court in 2018 faulted the way the SEC selected its in-house judges, and in April made it easier for targets of agency actions to mount challenges in federal court. The FINRA case - a constitutional challenge to its structure brought by Utah-based Alpine Securities Corp - is currently before another federal appellate court and eventually could come to the Supreme Court.

The research sought to answer several questions about paternal participation in breastfeeding and the use of safe sleep practices for babies. And many could do more to support mothers who breastfeed, which can provide key health benefits for babies, the study indicated. The research also found racial disparities in sleep practices, with Black fathers less likely than White fathers to follow those practices. Overall, almost a third of the fathers involved in this survey did not receive enough or any advice about safe sleep practices, according to the study. Previous studies have suggested that fathers can play a key role in helping mothers breastfeed.
